I missed last week's blog posts and this week's will be weak. You see, I'm on vacation - and although I watched the three shows this week, I just can't sit down and indulge all you faithful readers (3!!!) with my latest Idol thoughts. Here are some of the highlights however..... I thought it was absolutely ridiculous they sent that Black Country girl through and denied for the THIRD TIME the black girl with the daughter with disabilities. And to pour salt onto the wound, Kara tried to be all "sorry, you're good, but" while she took her seat and made the contestant sit on the armrest. That was a bunch of crap!! Boo! I think that was my only surprise on the 24. Simon even said that country girl was annoying and it has been proven with her performance of "I want to hold your hand" this week. "You were like a wind up toy"... my thoughts exactly. I am not digging her at all.
The first go around of the performances were just alright... but if you look back over the years, generally the first Live performances are shaky and just not that entertaining... You've got to weed out the ones with NO confidence, and the ones then, who truly want to be the Idol begin to emerge with gusto as they gain experience and comfort on the stage. The competition actually shows and the ones with the fight move forward. As for those kicked off last night,,,
I was disappointed with the two girls who left and also felt that that kid they brought back to fill the boy spot should have gone. His version of "apologize" was just plain awful. The girls were nervous, and wrong song choices as usual. Janell Wheeler was better and I have no clue why she didn't use her guitar...? Duh! The other girl,,, Rodriguez?, I was a little surprised she got the boot. Now Tyler Grady, the kick back to the 70's, yes he was weird, but was he the Sanjaya factor that will be missing this season? The one who we look forward to see how they will do on the stage. What they will wear? What will they sing? What will the dance like? You never know,,,
I really liked that Siobhan girl, sang the Chris Isaak song "I wanna fall in love"... i thought she had great control of breathing and phrasing. She stood out for me. And the chick with the white hair was different and confident.
So, we've got 10 and 10...next week, more thoughts will be posted, and perhaps a little live bloggin!

This first round of performances seemed SO awkward to me! Especially the girls. Everyone was great in Hollywood and then weak in their top 24 performances.
I agree, Haeley (Country Black girl) is SO annoying. I actually didn't mind the Apologize kid, though. Like Ellen kept saying, he's adorable! He looks like he came straight out of an episode of Hannah Montana.
I was so surprised at the two girls who got eliminated. There were several girls who I thought would leave way before either of them. I'm not too sad about Ashley, but I really liked Janell! She was my favorite girl in Hollywood week. I'm sad that I won't get to hear more from her. She really did choose the total wrong song, though. And the guys...I was a little surprised that Tyler left so soon, but not surprised about Jorge, even though I thought he did really well and had a great voice. Maybe the Hispanic community are not big voters! We lost Ashley Rodriguez and Jorge Muñoz in the first week. I hope Andrew Garcia sticks around!
thanks to the wonders of dvr, i am sucked in to yet another season, when i swore i would stop watching them. it's like a car crash....
i have to agree- there were so many great hopefuls during heck week, that i was surprised to see so many totally flop. i know the judges usually know what they are talking about, but now more than ever i find myself completely disagreeing with what they have to say. in example, was it jermane the guys that was first that did since you've been gone? i thought the arrangement was a little wierd, but different, good different. and they just ripped him apart for making it too different. then, on the other hand, they chastise some for being safe and 'not making it their own'. he made it his own, and they got on his case.
there was another oxy-moronic case in the show too. they are often telling them that they sounded too much like a crappier copy-cat of the original artist. then again, you can't be too far from the mark, or they say it's no good.
i sound like i am griping a lot, but i just feel so badly for these competitors that get those hot and cold messages about how and what to perform. i suppose the performing world is based on others' opinions, but.....
Sorry...my comment won't be nearly as long as the others, but I agree that Haley, or whatever her name is, is SUPER annoying and needs to go immediately!
This first round of performances was awful. We skipped through almost every song. Even the guy that I thought was the best, the one that sang the Paula Abdul song in Hollywood wasn't very good.
On a side note, I found myself making comments to Aimee, then hearing Simon saying the same basic thing. What are they going to do without Simon???
I just started watching the full show now that it is the top 24, so I don't know the contestants as well as everyone else, but I was ok with those who left. The 70's guy annoyed the crap out of me, what a poser! I liked the other guys voice, but wasn't really seeing any star quality. The girls I thought sang their songs better the second time around. They had good voices, but nothing we haven't heard before. With the show being on for so long, it's getting tough to do something fresh and new. I definitely think it's going to be a girl that wins though. I wasn't that impressed with most of the guys.
Oops, I guess it's really Joe Munoz, not Jorge!
